What are some tips and hints for my resume?

  • Include school, major, year of graduation and/or licensure dates
  • List experience related to the position for which you are applying, including start and end dates
  • State your desired compensation

  • Proofread and review for grammar and spelling
  • Do not include personal data such as gender, race or age
What if I do not have a resume?
If you do not have a resume, you may still complete the Application Inquiry Form or apply in person at Congregational Home.

What information will I need to complete the application?
You will need to know your work history including: name of employers, past employment dates, reason for leaving, telephone numbers, education history and references including names, phone numbers and relationship.

How far back into my work history should I go?
You should provide as much detail about your work history as possible so we are better able to determine your qualifications for the position.

What if I don’t know the exact dates of my employment?
We expect you to provide the correct month and year of employment start and end dates. If you do not know this information, please contact your prior employers in advance of submitting an application.

How long will it take to receive a response after I have applied?
Your application will be reviewed as quickly as possible. Due to the volume of applications received, we are only able to contact those candidates we feel meet our qualifications.

How will I be contacted if I am considered? What are the steps in the hiring process?
If we determine that you meet the qualifications of a current opening, Human Resources will contact you by telephone to schedule a time to discuss your background, experience and interest and the current opening. After the initial conversation, if you are selected to proceed in the process, we will schedule you for interviews with other individuals related to this position. Our goal is to make the interview process as convenient and as informative for you as possible. (Reference checks, drug screens and background checks will be conducted upon offer of employment.)

Why wasn’t I considered or called for an interview for the position I applied to?
There could be multiple reasons why you were not considered for the position: your desired shift and FTE may not match what the position calls for, you may not meet the requirements of the position or internal applicants are being considered to fill this position. If we do not have a current opening matching your qualifications, we will retain your resume/application according to state guidelines.

What should I keep in mind when preparing for an interview?
Be prepared to discuss your strengths, developmental needs, accomplishments, goals and expectations. At the conclusion of each interview, ask for a business card so you can write a thank-you note. Use the thank-you note to confirm your interest in the organization and in the position, reiterating points that were discussed during the interview.

I want to email my resume. What format should I use?
Resumes submitted via e-mail should be formatted using Microsoft Word or plain-text only.
